Heidi Sturgeon & Associates Online Therapy
I am a Registered Clinical Social Worker with nearly 30 years of experience providing therapy to adults. I offer EMDR therapy virtually to clients in Nova Scotia, New Brunswick, Newfoundland and Labrador, and Ontario, with a particular focus on trauma, anxiety, grief and loss, and difficult life transitions. You may be considering EMDR because of a specific traumatic experience, difficult experiences from childhood or relationships, or because something from the past still feels present in your life. You may understand what happened intellectually but continue to notice anxiety, emotional triggers, painful memories, or patterns that feel difficult to change.EMDR can help the brain process distressing experiences that continue to affect how you feel, respond, or see yourself today. I take a relational and compassionate approach to EMDR, with careful attention to preparation, pacing, and ensuring that the work is tailored to you.Grief and loss are also central areas of my practice. I have extensive specialized training in grief and loss and particular experience supporting people following the death of a parent, mother loss, friendship loss, and other significant losses. I also work with adults navigating anxiety, stress, relationship changes, separation, midlife transitions, perimenopause and menopause.Alongside EMDR, my clinical training includes Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), and Emotionally Focused Individual Therapy (EFIT), allowing me to integrate approaches based on your individual needs and goals.I completed my Master’s in Clinical Social Work at the University of Toronto in 1997 and have worked across hospital, mental health, addictions, child welfare, and education settings, as well as in clinical leadership. I have been providing virtual therapy since founding Heidi Sturgeon & Associates Online Therapy in 2016.At the heart of my work is the belief that healing happens in connection. My goal is to offer a compassionate, collaborative space where you can make sense of what you have experienced, process what continues to affect you, and move toward feeling calmer, more connected, and empowered.
