EMDR Consultant
Joy Rising Counselling Services
Kirsten Ferguson: I am a Registered Clinical Social Worker and worked in a rural mental health clinic (i.e. Alberta Health Services) for 33 years serving children, teens, adults and seniors. As a result, I have a strong background in using EMDR to treat mental health conditions (PTSD, anxiety, OCD, phobias, eating disorders, physical/emotional/sexual abuse, dissociative disorders etc.). I have also used EMDR to assist in treating day-to-day issues like workplace stress, professional burn out, workplace bullying, grief/loss, parenting struggles and issues related to farming (farm foreclosure, workplace accident or death, crop failure, sale of family homestead, transition of family farm from one generation to the next). I currently work in private practice where I serve adults with a wide variety of presenting problems.
In terms of consulting work: I am an EMDR Coach for EMDR Basic Training – I work for Roy Kiessling and Sharon Meredith (both of EMDR Consulting). In this role I help new EMDR therapists learn the skills associated with EMDR Therapy.
After completing basic training (50 hours of training) therapists can go on to become “EMDR Certified Therapists”. This involves 20 additional hours of consultation with an EAC (EMDRIA Approved Consultant). I have been working as an EAC since 2019. I will work with anyone who wants develop their EMDR skills but my deepest passion is supporting clinicians in rural and remote communities!
Please note: I am licensed in the province of Alberta and have an electronic license for Newfoundland/Labrador – I am able to work with clients and consultees who are in either of those provinces. I also have permission to provide services (to clients or consultees) living in the Yukon.
