Lyane Trepanier

EMDR Basic Training

Trepanier Psychology Inc.

Hi, I am Dr. Lyane Trepanier, a clinically trained Psychologist who provides individual psychotherapy to adults (17 to 80 years of age), and couples counselling.

My approach is ‘eclectic,’ meaning that I draw from different approaches that are most appropriate for the client. I believe that psychotherapy should foster personal insight in order to understand why we find ourselves in a certain place (mentally, emotionally, and physically). This insight allows us to choose more consciously as we move towards our personal best. My role is to help you manage your thoughts and emotion more effectively using one or a combination of therapeutic approaches such as Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR), and Narrative therapy, to name a few. I help adults overcome things like anxiety, depression, trauma, low self-esteem, and relationship problems (family, friends, partners). I also help clients work through grief from loss, separation, or death. For couples, I am trained in the Gottman method which is supported by the work of John Gottman and Julie Schwartz-Gottman from 35 years of research focused on helping couples reconnect and establish constructive tools for dialogue and find common ground.

During therapy, I strive to create a caring and inviting atmosphere with an open heart and mind, to guide my clients towards greater insight and happiness..

Prior to entering graduate school, I worked several years in both large and small business settings in communications and sales. I loved it, but I wanted to focus on my real passion, helping people draw out their very best both personally and professionally, So I returned to school to obtain a Master’s degree in Psychiatric Research from l’Université de Montréal, where I studied the effects of stress on humans across the lifespan. I then earned a PhD in Psychology from McGill University, where I trained in several therapeutic modalities in the psychiatry departments of two Montreal hospitals. These experiences have provided me with a real-world perspective on applied mental health strategies, in both the personal and professional domains. Therefore, in addition to my clinical work, I provide consulting services and workshops to companies and organizations on managing stress and anxiety.
