Koa Counselling

Birgit works as a counsellor/therapist in Kelowna, BC. She offers in-person appointments in her downtown office, with a view overlooking Okanagan Lake and Knox Mountain. Virtual appointments (video/phone) are also available. Birgit enjoys working with adults–individuals and couples. She is experienced in working with depression, anxiety, trauma, grief and loss, goal setting, neurodiversity (ADHD/ASD), stress/burnout, finding meaning and purpose. Birgit works collaboratively with her clients, giving them options on how to proceed to achieve their goals. She has used EMDR with clients who have experienced accidents, relationship breakup, religious trauma, anxiety, perfectionism, people-pleasing, isolatiing themselves (boundaries that push people away), and limiting core beliefs (“I’m not good enough”, “I’m not lovable”, “I can’t trust anyone”). Birgit is also a certified hypnotherapist, Buteyko Breathing Educator, and has trained in Emotion Focussed Therapy.

Birgit comes with a wide range of experience, having travelled through Africa, Israel, Europe, and Cental Amercia. She loves learning about other cultures and has taken classes in the local nsyilxc?n language. Birgit worked as a tree-planter for 7 years, as a dental hygienist, in the school system as a counsellor/educator, and in private practice. She has experienced significant loss in her life, as well as many good experiences and deep connections which have all contributed to her world-view. Birgit loves to get out in nature and finds it healing. She is curious and compassionate, knowing that all we have is the present, and all we can control is ourselves and our attitude and perspective. And sometimes a good laugh is therapeutic too!
