Roots of Hope Counselling

Bruce Relland, M.A. in Counseling

As a Metis male counselor, I bring a wealth of life experiences and a deep understanding of working with special needs populations. I offer a safe, empathetic, and non-judgmental space where individuals and couples can explore their concerns and experiences.

Approach:

My counseling philosophy is rooted in Rogerian person-centered therapy, emphasizing unconditional positive regard. I believe in meeting individuals where they are in their journey, fostering a strong therapeutic relationship based on empathy, authenticity, and mutual respect.

Incorporating a Range of Therapeutic Modalities:

Brief Solution-Focused Therapy: I assist clients in identifying their strengths and creating tangible, realistic solutions to achieve their goals within a short-term framework.

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT): I help individuals reframe negative thought patterns and behaviors, empowering them to create positive changes in their lives.

Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT): Drawing from DBT, I work with individuals to develop skills for emotional regulation and interpersonal effectiveness.

Narrative Therapy: I assist clients in re-authoring their life stories, helping them separate from problems and identify their strengths and abilities.

Gottman Couples Counseling: I employ research-based methods to assist couples in strengthening their relationships, fostering healthy communication and mutual understanding.

Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR): I offer EMDR to help individuals process trauma and distressing memories, promoting healing and resolution.

Attachment Therapy: Understanding the impact of attachment styles, I work with clients to enhance their self-awareness and improve their relationships.

Specialization:

My primary focus and specialization lie in trauma-focused therapy. I work extensively with individuals navigating trauma, offering support and guidance in their healing journey.

Cultural Safety Training:

I have undergone extensive cultural safety training to ensure a culturally sensitive and inclusive practice, recognizing and respecting diverse backgrounds and perspectives.

Ultimately, my goal is to collaborate with individuals and couples in a compassionate, client-centered approach, fostering growth, resilience, and empowerment in the face of trauma and life challenges.
