Liqwul Counselling and Therapy
My name is Christina James and I am a Canadian Certified Counsellor (CCC) with the Canadian Counselling Psychotherapy Association (CCPA). I have a Master’s in Counselling Psychology and a Master of Education.I have had the honour of working in different capacities with a wide range of age groups from a variety of cultural backgrounds. In over 30 years of working with children, youth, and adults I have obtained a deep understanding of the interconnectedness of body, emotions, soul, and mind, the impact of adverse experiences and suffering on the human spirit, as well as the immense potential each person has of healing within.I have experience supporting individuals and their families struggling with a variety of mental health challenges, such as anxiety, depression, behavioural/emotional challenges, and (complex) trauma impact.I firmly believe that each person has the potential to overcome the effects of their difficult life experiences. Research in neuroplasticity (ability of the brain to form and reorganize synaptic connections) has determined that our brain has the ability to change and we, therefore, have the ability to alter the way we think, feel about and experience ourselves and our relationships. It is my honour that you consider me to be part of your journey.Originally from Germany, I have married into the Penelakut Tribe and been involved in different roles in several First Nation communities as well as Canadian mainstream society. Based on my professional and life experience I adapt therapeutic practice to the personality, culture, and age of the client as well as the presenting problem(s) in order to ensure the most effective treatment method while taking a holistic approach. I draw from a variety of practices such as Attachment Therapy, Somatic and Emotion-focussed Therapy, Play Therapy, EMDR, Narrative Therapy, CBT and DBT.In my spare time I love going on walks and hikes with my dog (sometimes my husband joins a well) exploring our beautiful island. I love the ocean, gardening, swimming in lakes, reading and spending time with family and friends.
