Next Steps Counselling

BiographyMy therapeutic approach is informed by both professional training and lived experience. I live with clinically diagnosed ADHD and understand many of the challenges associated with attention, executive functioning and feeling misunderstood. For 20 years, I struggled with addictions involving sex, drugs and alcohol. I have now been in sustained recovery for 13 years. Last year, I experienced the devastating loss of my son to a drug overdose. These experiences have deepened my understanding of addiction, recovery, trauma and grief—and strengthened my commitment to walking alongside others during difficult seasons.I am married and the father of two children. My daughter, who has special needs, continually provides opportunities for me to experience the world through her eyes, offering perspective, gratitude and grounding. My many years as a mental health and safety professional have given me the privilege of supporting individuals from diverse backgrounds, along with their families, through crises, major transitions and opportunities for healing and growth. My goal is to create a safe and secure therapeutic environment where clients can openly explore their struggles, recognize their strengths and identify meaningful opportunities for change. Above all, I want every client to know that they are safe, supported and never have to walk alone. “The first step is often the hardest.”I offer individual, couples and family counselling for concerns including:* Trauma* ADHD* OCD* Addiction and recovery* Anxiety and stress* Depression* Grief and loss* Relationship and family challengesServices are available online and in person at office locations in Oshawa and Huntsville. I can also provide on-site support during crisis-management situations. In addition, I offer walk-and-talk therapy, which combines counselling with walking in a scenic outdoor setting. This approach can provide a grounding, engaging and less formal environment in which clients can reflect, talk and move forward.
