EMDR Consultant-in-Training
My name is Karina and I am a Registered Psychologist and the Owner of Choice Point Psychological Services, a boutique trauma therapy practice located on the West End of Downtown Calgary. I am EMDR certified and working towards becoming an approved EMDR Consultant. I love the structure and flexibility of EMDR. No two sessions of mine have been exactly alike and so much creativity comes forward when you let the brain (client) take the lead.
I have been gravitating towards using EMDR to support folks with complex PTSD, dissociative spectrum conditions, developmental (aka childhood) trauma, and preverbal trauma. I have received advanced training and supervision for these areas. Folks with complex trauma can often be some of the highest performing and resilient people I have ever met. I am often impressed by the careers and other accomplishments these folks have achieved despite the past pain they have been through. However, we have often seen that it came at a cost, typically to themselves. Masked shame, high self-criticism, people pleasing, self-harm, hidden struggles with substance use, avoiding close or intimate authentic connections, etc.
My primary focus in sessions is often helping clients to heal the relationship to self and others through our therapeutic relationship, along with deep introspective work, and by releasing the trauma the body stored from years of traumatic exposure and chronic stress. It has been an honour to witness these personal transformations and I often get to hear about the ripple effect within couples, families, or others my clients touch. If you have questions for me, feel free to shoot me an email or reach out via my contact page on my website.
