Lydia Coyne

Private practice

I graduated in 2012 with a Bachelor’s Degree in Social Work. After a year of working in treatment foster care, I completed my Master’s Degree in Social Work from the University of Toronto with a specialty in health and mental health. I worked for a year in South Africa providing services, including mental health support, to the refugee population. Its through this work that I began my interest and career path towards trauma support work.
I returned to Ontario and worked the next 8 years in both hospital Social Work and providing counselling in the school system. I participated in various trainings and workshops during this time, including training in CBT, ACT, DBT and attachment work. However in my work with people, I was noticing time and time again a gap—-the need for evidence based, effective and clinical intervention and treatment of underlying trauma. Passionate about helping individuals with the underlying causes of their present day distress, and accessing long term healing for PTSD, I sought out basic training in EMDR in 2021. I have been hooked ever since!
I have continued to access supervision and consultation for my EMDR practice after completing basic training, and this year will start the process of certification through EMDRIA. I am looking forward to being a part of EMDR Canada to access more support as an EMDR therapist and resources.
I primarily work with adults, however I will see some clients over the age of 16.
