Mona Kim

EMDR Consultant

My name is Mona Kim. I am a Registered Social Worker who provides trauma treatment and therapeutic support to adolescents and adults. I work together with individuals to encourage flow towards growth, change, and feeling better often by helping individuals to heal from difficult past or current experiences. I use a variety of therapeutic modalities including the use of EMDR, IFS, DBR, EFT, and SP which are well researched effective therapeutic tools used to address the impacts of trauma.

In addition to my private practice I have experience providing crisis intervention and trauma-focused therapy as a member of the Waterloo Region Sexual Assault/Domestic Violence Treatment Centre from 2010-2021. In the past I have also worked supporting youth who suffered from serious mental health concerns, provided support to international students and scholars with cultural transitions, and experience supporting caregivers with children and adolescents hospitalized with life threatening illnesses and conditions.

Typically those I work with seek my understanding and lived experiences with difference. I have a lived experience and understanding of neurodiversity, I have experiences working with LBGTQIA+ individuals, I have provided support for those who do what I would consider to be “extreme parenting”, and I have worked with other therapists to support their own journeys of healing.

I am a member in good standing with the Ontario College of Social Workers and Social Service Workers (OCSWSSW). My other professional memberships include the Ontario Association of Social Workers (OASW), EMDR Canada, and EMDRIA (International Association) as an affiliate member.

I completed my Bachelor of Arts in Child and Youth Care from the University of Victoria and then went on to complete my Masters of Social Work at Wilfrid Laurier University. Further training has included Certification as a Clinical Traumatologist ( Traumatology Institute – Toronto, Ontario) and Certification as an EMDR Clinician and EMDRIA approved Consultant (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing), Level One and Level Two IFS training (Internal Family Systems) from the Center for Self Leadership, Level One & Two EFT (Emotional Freedom Technique), DBR (Deep Brain Resonance) training, and completed my Level One SP (Sensorimotor Psychotherapy) and will complete SP level two in 2024. Although I have specific education in various models of therapy I work from a client-centered multi-model approach with a focus on mindfulness.

I am also now pleased to offer EMDR Consultation Services as an EMDRIA Approved EMDR Consultant .
