Nancy Aguirre

EMDR Certified Therapist

I am a registered clinical counsellor with a Master’s in Counselling Psychology. After my graduate studies, I completed various trauma-focused trainings in Advanced Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing Therapy (EMDR), Advanced Somatic Experiencing Trauma Therapy, Master Level Hypnotherapy, Therapeutic Enactment, Narrative Therapy, Energy Psychology (Emotion Freedom Technique-EFT, Reiki, Qigong, Meditation), Ego State/Parts Therapy, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), and Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT). Additionally, I participate in continuous professional development training such as Advanced Gottman Couples Therapy, Advanced Bader Pearson Couples Therapy, Family Constellations and Grief and Loss.

I am an active member of the BC Association of Clinical Counsellors (BCACC), EMDR Canada, EMDR International Association (EMDRIA), International Medical and Dental Hypnotherapy Association (IMDHA) and International Association of Counselors and Therapists (IACT).

I have experience counselling clients with PTSD, C-PTSD, developmental trauma, childhood abuse, sexual/emotional/physical abuse, anger, anxiety, depression, guilt, shame, low self-esteem, low confidence, life transitions, relationship issues, grief and loss, and cultural adjustment. I am comfortable working with people from various diverse and cultural backgrounds. In my practice, I use a multimodal approach according to the client’s needs, goals, and preferences. I provide brief and in-depth therapy to help clients process negative past experiences and identify negative cognitions about self, limiting beliefs and self sabotaging behaviors/patterns that hold them back and may affect their ability to attain their goals and successfully face the challenges of everyday life. Part of my approach includes using psychoeducation, regulation affect strategies and cognitive reframing to help clients find a new direction in life, new meaning, new goals, new qualities, new attitudes, new behaviors and the capacity to let go of what no longer works for them.

In my spare time, I enjoy gardening, dancing, hiking, camping, travelling, reading and listening to music. I also have interest in learning aromatherapy, pottery, painting and photography
