Anxiety & Trauma Clinic of Ontario

Steve Sunseth, BSW, MSW, RSW, is a social worker and psychotherapist specializing in trauma, adverse childhood experiences, and adult adoptee mental health.Steve provides a warm, steady, and collaborative therapeutic space for adults who are carrying the impact of painful life experiences, early relational wounds, adoption-related trauma, anxiety, grief, shame, and difficulties in relationships. His work is grounded in the belief that healing happens when people feel safe, understood, and supported at a pace that respects their nervous system.Steve uses EMDR therapy alongside trauma-informed, attachment-focused, and relational approaches to help clients process distressing experiences, reduce emotional reactivity, strengthen self-trust, and develop a more compassionate relationship with themselves. He has a particular interest in supporting adult adoptees and adults with histories of neglect, abandonment, family disruption, or chronic emotional misattunement. As both a clinician and an adult adoptee, Steve brings a deeply personal understanding of how early experiences can shape identity, belonging, self-worth, and relationships. His approach is gentle, respectful, and empowering, with a focus on helping clients make sense of their story without being defined by it.
