Susan Merli Psychotherapy & Counselling
I’m Susan Merli, a Registered Psychotherapist providing virtual psychotherapy to adults and couples across Ontario.I work with adults experiencing trauma, anxiety, stress, grief and loss, relationship challenges, self-worth concerns, perfectionism, people-pleasing, difficulties with boundaries, and significant life or career transitions. My approach to therapy is warm, collaborative, trauma-informed, and deeply respectful of the ways we learn to adapt to difficult experiences. I believe that experiences from our past can continue to shape how we feel, respond, relate to others, and understand ourselves in the present, sometimes long after the original experience has passed.Rather than asking only, “What is wrong?” I am often interested in exploring, “What happened, what did you need, and what has your mind and body learned to do in order to protect you?”EMDR can help us work with experiences and patterns that may feel difficult to shift through insight alone. Together, we may explore distressing experiences, triggers and recurring patterns while strengthening emotional regulation and developing more adaptive ways of responding to yourself, your relationships, and the world around you.My therapeutic approach is integrative and strongly influenced by the person-centred work of Carl Rogers, with an emphasis on empathy, authenticity, respect, and the importance of the therapeutic relationship.Above all, I want therapy to be a place where you do not have to perform, have everything figured out, or carry everything alone. We begin where you are and work together from there.
